How to Pack a Bathroom for Moving Day

The bathroom is often the last room people think about when packing for a move. But it has more items that need careful handling than you might expect — liquids, medicines, glass bottles, and personal care products that need sorting before you pack.

Sort Before You Pack

Start by going through every item in your bathroom. You will likely find products that are nearly empty, expired, or that you no longer use.

Dispose of these responsibly before packing anything. Moving half-used or expired products wastes space and adds weight without any benefit.

Handling Liquids Without Leaks

Liquid products — shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, cleaning sprays — are one of the biggest packing challenges in a bathroom.

For any product with a pump or open top, place a small piece of cling wrap over the opening before closing the cap. This prevents the pump from pressing down during transport and leaking inside the box.

For bottles without a secure seal, seal the original cap with packing tape before packing.

Pack all liquids together in a zip-lock bag or a sealed plastic box. Even if one bottle leaks, the damage will be contained.

Medicines and First Aid Items

Pack medicines separately from toiletries. Check expiry dates before packing — moving is a good time to dispose of expired medicines safely.

Keep a small medicine bag with essentials — pain relief, allergy medicine, bandages — in your personal bag rather than in the moving truck. You may need them during or after the move.

For medicines that need refrigeration, arrange to transport them separately in a cooler with ice packs.

Glass and Fragile Items

Perfume bottles, glass jars, and mirrors need extra protection. Wrap each one individually in bubble wrap or packing paper.

Place wrapped glass items in a box with cushioning on the bottom and between each item. Mark the box "FRAGILE" and ensure it is not stacked underneath heavier boxes in the truck.

Pack an Open First Bag

You will need bathroom items as soon as you arrive at the new home. Pack a separate bag with essentials for the first hour.

Include:

• Toothbrush and toothpaste
• Soap or hand wash
• Toilet paper
• Towels (one per person)
• Any essential medicines
• A small first aid kit

Keep this bag with you — not in the moving truck.

What to Leave Behind

Some bathroom items are not worth moving. Nearly empty products, old razors, worn-out brushes, and half-used cleaning products can be disposed of or donated.

Replacing small, inexpensive items at the new home is often easier and cheaper than packing, transporting, and unpacking them.
